PRESS RELEASE
NGO
partners with Female Musicians Association of Nigeria (FEMAN)
An NGO
Advocacy for widows empowerment foundation (awef) and Female Musicians
Association of Nigeria(FEMAN) an umbrella body of all female musicians in Nigeria
have agreed to partner with awef for
this years “widows Gala Nyt” a brain
child of ‘Advocacy For Widows
Empowerment Foundation(awef), taking place on the 25th of November, 2012 in
Lagos.
In a
joint statement signed by AWEF and FEMAN,
Advocacy for widows empowerment foundation (awef)
represented by Dele Ojo stated that as one of its projects for each year, it is
our desire to host widows to a night of fun and excitement to show them how
much we love and care for them".
According
to a representative of FEMAN Maureen
Ejezie who had a hit song in the 90'stitled"I LOVE PALMWINE" she
opined that "partnering with awef on this laudable event which is a
prelude to our ‘FEMAN HALL OF FAME’
project is our way of giving back to humanity, especially widows who are dear
to our hearts"
To
ensure a successful hosting of widows Gala Nyt
top female artist, comedians celebrities and Nollywood actors have
indicated interest to make it a night to remember for widows.
Advocacy
for Widows Empowerment Foundation (awef)
has been in the fore front of widows rights, educating, and facilitating
trainings for widows on entrepreneurship.
Awef
also stated that the time is now ripe for us all to show love and to end the
silence on the abuse of widows and the lack of concern for their human rights,
and economic deprivation for self sustainability.
It is
necessary to confront the common assumption that widows must be stigmatized, should
be ignored and left to suffer, deprived of inheritance, etc. This notion is
wrong because widows are willing and able to make valuable contributions to the
development of our communities and the nation. It is worthy to note that every
second that ticks, someone somewhere is made a widow either as a result of
natural courses or by accident.
